In November, the Lebewohl family opened 2nd Floor at 2nd Ave Deli, a cozy cocktail den above the beloved deli on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. With design elements such as reclaimed wood floors and a pressed-tin ceiling, the space is rich with character like a hidden gem from a past era. Rust-colored leather banquettes, a brass cocktail bar, and vintage furniture set the stage for drinks and conversation, and pocket doors throughout make 2nd Floor easily divisible into smaller rooms for private parties. Open nightly from 5pm until late, the new space pays homage to its historic sister restaurant downstairs with a menu of updated takes on Jewish deli classics such as pickled tongue sliders, fried gefilte fish, pastrami deviled eggs, and stuffed helzel. Shareable dishes are complemented by a nostalgic list of handcrafted cocktails, such as the Man-O-Manischewitz with Dorothy Parker Gin, spiced Manischewitz and lemon, and the Rosh-Hashanah inspired Shofar with Laird's Apple Brandy, house grenadine, honey, lime and baked apple bitters.
